Our collections, visitor numbers, and network of libraries have grown since our flagship library opened to the public on May 23, 1911. But we're still united behind the belief that one book can change a life.

Each day the doors of your library open and a steady stream of New Yorkers arrive in search of not only books, but classes, playgroups, or just a quiet place to learn. The City provides a critical source of funding to make this happen. But increasingly, the Library depends on individuals like you who believe that our essential resources should be readily available for the people of New York, free of charge.

Please honor the Library by making your special Centennial gift below. Once you make your gift, you'll be able to add your favorite book to the Friends Bookshelf with a few words describing how it inspired you.

The Friends Bookshelf will remain on the Centennial website for all to enjoy and use as a collaborative reading list. There's no telling which book will leap off the screen and make a personal connection!
